This work is a meditation on life. If you have lived it long enough then there is a pretty good chance that you have been hurt some where down the line. Whether it was physical or emotional, self inflicted or done by a third party the pain still sets in leaving you a different person than you were before. The change can be subtle or quite apparent (and graphic), but on either level it is something that we all have in common.
Some of these works have been pierced just once, leaving a small, clean wound, while others were riddled by a violent force leaving them unrecognizable. They were forms once intended for nourishment, but with the ease of pulling a trigger or the press of a button these pieces have lost their initial function. At a glance they have become disfigured and empty holding no sense of purpose.
It is my hope that with a second(or third), deeper look, you will begin to see that they gain personality, tell stories, take on a new function and purpose. May these pieces be a reflection on the fragility and preciousness of life (and clay). May they allow you to see the beauty of each others wounds and respect each others struggles. This is my hope because this work is about me, you, and every one else living here. -JP
Jason's technique is *highly* original & so incredibly pertinent to the world today: It speaks of the horrific wounding of society and the insult to peaceful, creative and authentic living which is so prevalent. It is simply brilliant. It speaks on all levels of humanity, produces thought provoking, beautiful work, gives us hope that one day beauty and usefulness (and even humor) may arise out of the sad and chaotic circumstances of violence in the world today.

...Even if the round performs flawlessly it truly comes down to Jay's knowledge of the medium, the form of the individual piece and the desired result weighed carefully against what the piece can handle ballistics wise. The success of each piece is determined before the round is fired. Jay tirelessly works to master his craft with staunch determination to understand the complex world of ballistic theory, a field that takes years to understand and a lifetime to master.
